Here are some of the competitive runners at the Doggie Dash. They started the course before the grand majority of the people entered, who were there more for fun than to WIN.

On a side note, we were NOT impressed by the VERY competitive runner (not shown here) who literally dragged his poor little fat doxie when it would not keep up. He was upset with the dog when it finally collapsed, and he had to carry it, which lost him the race. This guy has competed in this event before (his dachshund was thinner, then), and you'd think he'd know better.... It was the one unhappy note of the day, and if any of the organizers of the event ever see this note, I hope they'll do something about making sure things like that don't happen anymore.
